  • Time - The Power to Choose

    Each person who draws breath on this earth receives the same amount of time each day,

    24 hours, 1440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds.

    At the end of that day the time is gone.

    Time cannot be stolen, exchanged, refunded, stockpiled, or hacked.

    Time is extremely limited and insanely in demand.

    Think of all that competes with your time on a daily basis. Are you overwhelmed yet?

    Many of us live at a frantic pace. Our calendars are overflowing;

    We run from one activity to the next.

    There is constant noise in our lives. We’re always “connected”.

    However, are we actually connecting with others?

    Busyness does not equal importance.

    Today, be intentional in your relationships.

    Make time to spend with those you love and care about.

    Make a new memory you can cherish and reflect on.

    Make sure you do something you love.

    Take time for yourself to fill up your soul so you can fill up others.

    Don’t hang out with people who drain your enery and are always complaining and being negative.

    You don’t want to give your precious time to things and people that you will regret.

    We only pass through this life once. Make your time count

    What will you do today with your 24 hours? Your 1440 minutes? Your 86,400 seconds?

  • How to tell if your Body is Too Acidic - 7 stages of Acidosis

    How can you tell if your body is too acidic?

    1) The first one is I'm tired. If you're saying that, you're in stage one or step one acidosis.

    2) The second one is irritation or sensitivities. You may have allergies or skin outbreaks, acne. This is stage two acidosis, or step two.

    3) Stage three is when you start constantly clearing your throat or coughing. Your body is actually neutralizing acids or buffering acids, producing a sticky mucus. This is stage three acidosis, or step three.

    4) Step four is when you're in an inflammatory state. You cannot be in an inflammatory state or have pain without acid.

    5) Stage five is when the acid that you should be eliminating becomes solidified. This is when it builds up on the walls of the arteries and sets the stage for a stroke. Most people that are in a stage of solidification can check that by testing their cholesterol, because cholesterol increases in the presence of acidity to buffer excess acid to protect the organs that sustain life. It's not that cholesterol is bad. It's trying to protect you against your poor acidic lifestyle and dietary choices.

    6) Step six is ulcerations, and finally,

    7) Step seven is degeneration. Now you've been diagnosed with cancer or diabetes, or a degenerative or osteoporosis, a degenerative condition that's a reflection of what you're eating, what you're drinking, and what you're thinking.

    However, You should consult your physician or other health care professional
    before starting this or any other fitness program to determine

  • Veggie & Organic Whole Grain Quinoa

    Looking for an alternative to meat for your protein?

    Try an easy to make Veggie & Quinoa dish.

    It is high in fiber, protein and has a low glycemic index.

    It contains eight grams of protein per cup, plus, it's considered a complete protein,
    meaning it packs all nine essential amino acids your body needs.

    INGREDIENTS

    2 Cups of Water
    1 Cup of Quinoa - serves a family of 4 for dinner
    2 stalks of celery
    1 sweet red pepper
    1/2 of a sweet onion
    2 carrots
    3 broccoli florets
    Sea Salt
    Fresh ground pepper

    INSTRUCTIONS

    Rinse off 1 cup of Quinoa
    Measure 2 cups of water
    Add the Quinoa to the water and bring to a boil
    Simmer for 20 minutes
    Cut up in small pieces the celery, red pepper, onion, carrots and broccoli
    After Quinoa is cooked pour into large bowl
    Add all the veggie ingredients and stir until blended together
    Add sea salt and fresh pepper to taste

    Enjoy!

    Excellent way to add some protein to your diet if you do not want to eat
    beef, chicken, pork etc.

    Someone said to me yesterday "It must be nice doing what you love".
    Made me think because I do wake up each day thankful that another day is upon me.

    I guess what I love is meeting new people, building great relationships, and seeing people smile.
    If I can be a small part of their smile my day was lived with some kind of purpose.

    It's amazing how your entire overall health is affected when you are happy and smile.
    Your body will thrive when filled with positive thoughts.

    Giving the gift of a smile is even better!

    As I have been charting my intake
    of healthy fats, proteins, and veggies
    I came across this great article from
    Dr. Robert O Young about how to
    get your protein without eating animal
    protein.

    Protein Love Affair

    Protein is an essential nutrient which plays many key roles in our bodies,
    but despite America’s love affair with high protein, our bodies don’t actually need that much.

    Dr. Robert O. Young says, “Our bodies are only 7% protein.
    In contrast to cow’s milk, which is protein rich, human mother’s milk is
    only 5% protein (i.e., better suited to the body’s protein requirements).
    In addition, animal protein foods often contribute factors to the body,
    which are unneeded and then represent a challenge to dispose of (e.g., saturated fats).”

    The recommended daily intake of protein is .8 grams of protein for every kilogram in weight.
    Making adjustments for how plant proteins digest somewhat differently from animal proteins,
    The Vegetarian Resource Group arrives at .9 grams of protein per kilogram body weight.
    That’s about 71 grams of protein for a vegan male weighing 174 pounds.

    Plant sources of protein are delicious, abundant, and very healthy for your heart.
    Protein can be alkalizing!

    Here's a list of 5 common vegetarian protein sources, and the amount of protein they provide:

    EDAMAME (protein per cup = 17g)
    Along with high protein and essential amino acids.
    Edamame are also highly alkaline because of their magnesium content.
    But be sure to buy organic, non-GMO edamame, because 90% of soy products are genetically modified.

    HEMP SEEDS (protein per 2 tbsp. = 10g)
    High in protein and loaded with heart health benefits.

    CHIA SEEDS (protein per 2 tbsp. = 5g)
    Loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids and protein means these tiny seeds can decrease the risk of heart disease.

    BEANS (protein content per cup of mung = 49g; black = 39g; kidney = 43g; adzuki = 39g; lentils = 18g)
    Of course, beans are high in protein, but they’re also high in fiber,
    iron, zinc, calcium and more.

    QUINOA (protein per cup = 8g)
    Even though we eat quinoa as though it were a grain,
    it really isn’t a grain at all. It’s a seed.
    The source plant is related to beets, spinach, and Swiss chard.

    Whether you’re fueling for your work day or fueling for a workout,
    a little protein throughout the day, from vegan sources, really does go a long way.

  • Up Your Kale

    INGREDIENTS

    4 stalks of Kale
    3 Yams
    4 carrots
    25 Brussel sprouts
    4 celery sticks
    1 head of broccoli
    1 bag spinach
    1 bag green beans
    2 small onion
    4 gloves of garlic
    pinch of basil
    pinch of sea salt - season to taste
    Ground pepper - season to taste

    INSTRUCTIONS

    Leave the skins on the vegetables and cut everything up in small pieces.

    Boil the yams, carrots, Brussel sprouts for 5 minutes and use the water you boiled in to add into larger soup pot.

    Cut the rest of the ingredients and put directly into larger soup pot.

    Add 2 or 3 cups of water to larger pot once all ingredients are in pot and simmer for 40 minutes.
    Depends how large a pot you are using. Make it so there is a nice amount of broth.

    Stir occasionally

    Great way to warm your insides on a cold winter day and also get your alkaline vegetables

    Friday Night Delight

    Sometimes after a long week Friday nights are the time
    for something quick and easy so why not make
    it healthy at the same time.

    Being prepared is half of the battle
    to having quick and easy meals so I
    like to pre cook the chicken and keep
    lots of fresh vegetables already chopped
    on hand for moments like this.

    INGREDIENTS

    3 Organic Brown Rice cakes
    Tzatziki- low fat
    fresh spinach
    1 tomato
    black olives
    shredded chicken breast

    INSTRUCTIONS

    Spread 1 tsp of tzatziki on rice cakes
    Put as much fresh spinach as you can
    chop 1 tomato
    chop black olives
    add shredded chicken breast.

    You can add some sea salt and ground
    pepper for taste

    Enjoy

    Great way to get some protein and alkaline
    at the end of the day

  • Measure Inches vs Pounds - Part 2

    So as the journey of eating healthier continues
    I wanted to share some good news with you.

    It's not always about your weight, it's
    about how you feel in your own skin.

    Sometimes you feel down after
    stepping on that scale and it seems
    like nothing is working.

    You are eating a more alkaline diet,
    you are starting to exercise, you watch
    those calories and that darn scale
    doesn't change

    If you measure yourself by your weight only
    you just might be cheating yourself out of
    an achievement you didn't realize was
    taking place.

    I decided to take some measurements the
    other day and realized I was losing inches
    instead of lbs.

    It's crazy how that number on the scale
    affects how we think, live, and feel.
    I have been the same weight for months
    now however didn't see that changes were
    taking place because my mind was focused
    on a number.

    Start to measure inches instead of pounds.
    Start to measure how you feel.
    Start to measure what your skin looks like
    Start to measure your energy level
    Start to measure all the great things going
    on instead of measuring weight

    I have to tell you that shopping for
    jeans has always been such a stressful
    experience.

    Most of my friends wear skinny jeans
    and even the thought of skinny jeans
    makes me feel confined.

    With much encouragement from women
    who love me I went on the adventure
    to find skinny jeans and was pleasantly
    surprised at what I saw looking back at
    me in the mirror yesterday.

    I even managed to find some high boots
    to accommodate my curvy legs.

    I encourage each of you to read more
    about alkaline vs acidic eating,
    Add more pH to your life, and
    start paying attention to your body
    not the scale
