  • pH Alkaline Foods - My personal favourites for High Energy

Posted on June 22, 2014 by Wendy

    It's official! Happy Summer Everyone!

And with that comes the magnificence of Healthy, Delicious, pH Alkaline Foods.

There is amazing energy in the foods we eat so this month I want to share with you some of the top alkaline foods that I personally eat to ensure I keep my energy high. With all the summer activities going on you do not want to feel sluggish or tired, and it is a proven fact that eating an alkaline diet with help you to feel more vibrant and alive. What better way to spend your day!

You can certainly find ALL of these amazing foods at your local grocery store or better yet, at your local Farmer's market.

Spinach, Kale & Romaine Lettuce are rich in vitamins and minerals. The folate is a mood enhancing mineral and actually lowers depression so eat more spinach, kale and romaine lettuce to feel happier because when we are happier we are more energetic. There is nothing more energizing than a spinach salad, or some yummy kale chips.

Almonds and Walnuts are protein packed with a good source of magnesium. The magnesium helps convert sugar into energy. This is a great snack for the afternoon when you need a pick me up and also easy to carry with you for a "quick fix". Don't forget to also sprinkle them on your salads or add some sunflower seeds with them to mix it up.

A glass of water when you feel tired will more than likely give you the boost of energy you need by hydrating your body. We feel sluggish when we are dehydrated so keep your body hydrated to feel more energetic, especially in the heat or when outside. I know this isn't "officially" a food however it's just as important. By also adding fresh lemon to your water in the morning and night is also an excellent way to get your source of alkaline in your water.

If you haven't used Coconut Oil, now is a good time to begin. Coconut oil is a fat that converts quickly into energy and you can also cook with it as well as use in your shakes and smoothies. It certainly gives your dishes an excellent, unique, delicious flavour. You can also enjoy raw coconut as well or add it to your salad toppings too. The latest healthy craze is all about Coconuts!

Lastly, Dates, Figs & Raisins are an excellent alkaline source. I love to dip my dates and figs into raw honey, and then roll them into raw crushed almonds or coconut. What a wonderful treat! The raisins are also fabulous as a salad topper. Did you know that raisins are a good source of potassium and magnesium? These two minerals are both very effective in neutralizing the acids in your body and help check acidosis and other related condition. There is no better snack to alkalize your body than with dates, figs & raisins, and also get to a natural state of weight.

    pH Alkaline Foods

So there you have it! Some of my top alkaline foods to keep yourself energized this summer. Make sure you add them to your shopping list and enjoy your month everyone.

    Luv Wendy

  • INSTANT GRATIFICATION - MOOD ELEVATING HEMP BALLS

Posted on December 8, 2013 by Wendy

INSTANT GRATIFICATION - MOOD ELEVATING HEMP BALLS.

So if you are not so sure what to bring to the company party for desert or just need a boost in the afternoon, try these :

Instant Gratification - Mood elevating Hemp Balls

They are a little chewy, a little nutty, a lot delicious. Instant Gratification can be yours with a delicious mood-elevating hemp balls. A perfect afternoon energy boost of medjool dates, cashews and hemp seeds.

    INGREDIENTS.

    8 Pitted medjool dates
1 heaping tablespoon of crushed raw cashews
1 heaping tablespoon hulled hemp seeds
    1 heaping teaspoon coconut oil
You can add a couple drops of vanilla for extra flavour

    FOR THE OUTSIDE DECORATION

1-2 tablespoons hemp seeds for rolling

    DIRECTIONS

Blend all the above ingredients in a home blender, or a food processor, depends on what you own. Blend until all the mixture is starting to stick together.

All you do is now shape the mixture into 1 inch balls or whatever size you wish. 1 inch is best for bit size nibbles.

These hemp balls will be chewy and nice and soft if you eat them right away.

    Super delish!!!

    Recipes make about 6-8 balls.

    BENEFITS OF HEMP SEEDS.

Hemp "seeds" are actually a fruit. They are round and tiny and have a a bit of a nutty flavour. They kind of taste like a pine nut with a more mild flavour.

Hemp seeds are a fabulous vegan source of easily digested protein. Hemp seeds contain all of the 10 essential amino acids and also are a healthy anti-inflammatory.

Hemp seeds are plant-based phytonutrients and rich in disease fighting nutrients.
An awesome alkaline food to help get you pH balanced.

Try sprinkling hemp seeds over a salad, as a topping on granola, puddings or other desserts. They can also be added to smoothies to give it a more nuttier flavour.

You can buy hemp sees at any natural foods store or if you prefer not to make the hemp balls, you can find them at Superfoods Eateries in Toronto, my health store of choice

    Enjoy!

  • Veggie Squash Soup

Posted on October 12, 2013 by Wendy

    Happy Thanksgiving!

With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us I thought I would share this delicious Veggie Squash Soup recipe with you.

I discovered it one day by just adding everything I had in my fridge for a soup.
It is one of my personal favourites and is featured in the Fabulous,
Fit & Fantastic Living book - "Get to Your Natural State of Weight"

This a great pH alkaline soup and you can keep it in the fridge for leftovers.

Remember this soup can be made year round, so enjoy!!!!

    Luv Wendy

    Vegetable Squash Soup

This is a great soup to make year round

    INGREDIENTS

Organic squash broth – can be purchased in health stores in cartons or
fresh counter- I usually use 2 cartons and it makes a great soup for
    2 people for 3-4 days
    Kale- 1 small bunch
Small baby organic potatoes - (1 bag)
    Spinach - 1 bunch
    Organic carrots - 6
    Cabbage - 1/4
    Red onions - 1 large
    Broccoli - 4 flowerettes
Fresh garlic - as much as you like for taste
Ginger - as much as you like for taste
Sea Salt - as much as you like for taste
Fresh Ground Pepper - as much as you like for taste
    Oregano - just a pinch
    Parsley - just a pinch

    DIRECTIONS

Make sure you have a large non stick pot
Open the carton of organic squash broth and add to the pot.
For each carton of organic squash broth you use stir in 1 full cup of
water. If you prefer more broth add more water.
Chop up all the ingredients on the list and add into the pot.
The great thing is if you like one or two ingredients more than
another you can add more if you wish. You to make the mix anything
    you like.
You can make the soup thicker by adding more vegetables.
You can also add more of the spices as well if you wish.
Put everything into the pot, stirring occasionally and bring to a boil
Continue then to boil gently for 15 minutes.
Then simmer for about 30 minutes before serving.
