  • Switch Tips

Posted on January 15, 2015 by Wendy

A lot of people are asking me this month, "What can they do to make healthier food choices?" and "How Can They Lose those extra pounds from the holidays"? Chapter 16 in my book Fabulous, Fit & Fantastic Living, "Get To Your Natural State of Weight" shares some excellent Switch Tips of things you can begin to do differently. I am not a big believer in the word "diet" and I think if you start to make better choices that are simple and easy to follow you will lose those extra pounds and get to your "natural state of weight"

Outside of the pH recipes I have shared with you this year here are just some simple ingredients you can switch to create a healthier and more pH-balanced lifestyle.

Switch the regular breakfast habits of cereal and milk, toast and jam, home fries and bacon to something alkaline. Try having salad for breakfast. I know it sounds odd; however, I tried it a few times and it is delightful. We are conditioned to thinking salad is for lunch and dinner only. You can even try a veggie wrap, or some vegetable juice. Your body will love you.

Switch your hot processed boxed cereal to buckwheat cereal and use almond milk instead. This is very filling and easy to make. Cream of buckwheat is available at most health food stores.

Switch regular pasta noodles to soba noodles.

Switch white rice to brown rice, or basmati rice.

Switch in between meal snacks to cucumber, celery, red, yellow or orange bell peppers, with hummus, instead of candy or chips. Try sliced apples sprinkled with cinnamon. Also try dehydrated kale chips, sweet potato chips, veggie crunch sticks. This will satisfy your need for crunch.

Switch your pop/soda to lemon/lime flavored water.

Switch your peanut butter to organic peanut butter and also try almond butter.

Switch your table salt to Celtic Sea Salt.

Switch your white vinegar to apple cider vinegar.

Switch your potatoes to sweet potatoes/yams.

Switch corn to root vegetables, parsnips, beets, carrots and squash.

Switch MSG and salty spices to natural cinnamon, ginger, oregano, parsley, cilantro, basil and fresh garlic.

Switch dried fruit to fresh fruit.

Switch cashews and pistachios to pumpkins seeds and raw sunflower seeds.

Switch processed chocolate to raw organic cacao chocolate.

Switch your coffee from cream and sugar to black.

I hope this helps you with some healthier choices

  • Your Reflection

Posted on January 3, 2015 by Wendy

So the common question this weeks is "What's Your New Years Resolution?

It sure seems like the most popular New Year's Resolution is to lose weight.
Nothing is new from generation to generation. Everywhere I look, whether it's on social media, TV, or a newspaper, there is an ad for something to lose weight and be "Skinny" for the New Year.
Get "Skinny" quick companies and gyms make a fortune in the first 3 months of a New Year.
The sad thing is for the people who invest in this "Get Skinny" gimmick are left sometimes even more disappointed than when they began. There is no "Get Skinny" program. There is only "Get Healthy" program.
This is a lifestyle change, not a couple months change.

Yes, I agree, it's a place to start, and Yes, I agree some people do have excellent progress, however statistics say less than 10% of people continue after their first month and less than 5% after the second month.

Stop being so hard on yourself. Yes, the holidays are a time when people over indulge however,
sometimes it's more of an emotional eating holiday than a realistic eating holiday.
Stop to take a look at your eating habits, what you eat and when you eat it so you understand yourself better. Making a chart of what you eat helps a lot.

I believe people put way too much pressure on themselves when they look in the mirror.
Eating healthy is a daily commitment to yourself, a long term goal.
Learn what foods make you feel good and simply focus on a more alkaline, pH diet.
You will get to your "natural state of weight" with no diets.

    I can help you with…

Healing your body as you go through the pH process
Adapting your body to look and feel good as you get older
Educating you on how to become healthier from within

  • Breakfast Egg Muffins

Posted on December 21, 2014 by Wendy

    Happy December...

Now that the holidays are upon us I was giving some thought to how to make your holiday breakfast quick & easy and with some alkaline. I know on Christmas morning with all the hustle and bustle the last thing you think about is making a healthy breakfast. Also having a meal you can throw in your bag to take on the road while visiting relatives is nice as well. There is no need to go hungry and what better way to eat your veggies as well

    Home Made Breakfast Egg Muffins

My good friend Neelo's Kitchen shared this recipe and photo with me however I have tweaked it so it is 75% Alkaline and 25% Acidic so it's the perfect pH Balanced Breakfast or mid morning Snack.

    INGREDIENTS

    Chopped Spinach

    Chopped Kale

    Chopped Broccoli

    Chopped Onion

    Chopped Tomatoes

    Black Ground Pepper

    Green Chillies

    Fresh Coriander

Grated Cheese of your choice (optional)

    6 Omega Preferred Eggs

    2 Tbsp Almond Milk

1 Muffin pan of 12 separate cups

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat Oven to 400 degrees

    Grease your muffin tin

Beat your eggs with the almond milk

Add your vegetables along with the cheese in each separate muffin pan

Pour beaten egg mixture on top of it

Place muffin pan on the center rack of a preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes or until muffins are light brown, puff, and the eggs are set.

Let muffins cool for a few minutes before removing from the muffin pan or cups. Loosen gently with knife if they seem to be sticking. Eat immediately or let cool completely and store in plastic bag in refrigerator or freezer. The Egg Muffins can be reheated in the microwave

The great thing with this recipe is you can chop up all your ingredients the night before so all you have to do in the morning is mix your eggs up. You can also mix up your ingredients if you like for unlimited possibilities.

Great as well for your children to take to school for a mid morning snack and a dose of healthy vegetables. Much better than the standard carbs for breakfast.

I hope you give this recipe a try, not only for Christmas morning, but all throughout the year. It is packed with lots of vitamins, minerals, and protein and a Super Yummy and Fabulous Way to start your day!

    Enjoy!!

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and Remember to always, Be Fabulous

    Luv Wendy

  • Baked Apples

Posted on November 17, 2014 by Wendy

With the Fall Weather upon us and a high abundance of super delicious Macintosh apples it's the perfect time to give this recipe Baked Apples a Try. I know it sounds like it's such a simple recipe and who actually needs a recipe for baked apples, however I was surprised as I spoke with others, just how many people have never tried it before, so I wanted to share it with you.

You can enjoy this recipe with a scoop of frozen yogurt as well or serve it up as it.

    INGREDIENTS

As Many Apples as you like, I used 4

    Cinnamon

    Nutmeg

    Organic Brown Sugar

    Organic Butter

    Organic Nuts, Walnuts, Cashews, Almonds

    Organic Raisins

1 pan deep enough for the apples to sit in comfortably. My pan used is a glass pan

    Optional: Frozen Vanilla Yogurt

    DIRECTIONS

First off- Wash your apples and wipe dry with a towel

Use a paring knife to cut the top of the apples.

Cut off the steam and make a circle cut around the top of the apple, so you can hollow out the apples.

Remove all the pits and core with a spoon, except leave just half an inch at the bottom of the hollowed apple so ingredients do not fall out.

Crush the nuts and cut up the raisins.

Place a scoop of brown sugar in the bottom of the apple

Place a scoop of the crushed nuts and raisins on top of the brown sugar

Cut a small chunk of butter and gently place on top

    Sprinkle with Cinnamon and Nutmeg

Place in a deep dish pan and surround the apples with about 1 inch of water.

Cook at 375 degrees for 30 minutes

Place apples in a bowl and enjoy

You can also add a scoop of Vanilla Frozen Yogurt if you like, depending on your taste.

    HEALTH BENEFITS

Remember that Apples have hardly any calories. A medium apple is about 80 calories. It has 0% Saturated Fat, High in Fiber, No Sodium and High in Vitamin C. Apples do have sugar so make sure you eat them in the morning and afternoon, and not before bed.

I am sure you heard the expression, "An apple A Day, Keeps the Doctor Away", and whoever made it up was right.

Apples are high in Thiamine for healthy mental and cardiovascular functioning, and also Riboflavin which keeps your immune system strong. Lastly lots of minerals like Potassium, Calcium, and Phosphorous.

So enjoy your Baked Apples and Remember to Always Be Fabulous!

    Luv Wendy

  • Eating Alkaline on the BBQ

Posted on August 19, 2014 by Wendy

FABULOUS YAMS & PEPPERS ON BBQ

Summer time is a fabulous time to BBQ and YES you can still eat Alkaline while enjoying your big juicy steak on the BBQ. Remember the key is to eat 75% alkaline and 25% Acidic. The meats we BBQ are ALL acidic so just make sure you balance it off with some great veggies. One of my favourites are Yams and Peppers.

    INGREDIENTS ( for 2 people)
2 Fresh Peppers- Yellow or Orange Preferred, however you can use red or green if you like
    2 large Fresh Yams
    Sea Salt
    Fresh Ground Pepper
    Fresh Garlic Gloves
    8 baby tomatoes
    Butter - optional

    DIRECTIONS FOR PEPPERS

    Wash the peppers first

First make a round cut on the top of the pepper so you can open it up to stuff it.
Make the cut just big enough so you can stuff it easily and take off the stem.

Next clean out the pepper and take out all the seeds.

Take the garlic and peel 4 cloves. 2 for each pepper. Cut the garlic cloves in half.

Take 8 baby cherry tomatoes and slice each in half. There will be 4 full tomatoes for each pepper after sliced.

Stuff the peppers with the garlic and tomatoes. Add a bit of sea salt and fresh pepper, and a splash of butter if you like. The butter makes it more juicy.

Wrap each pepper fully in aluminum foil and place on top grill in your BBQ. Make sure the foil is completely sealed so the butter doesn't run out. Let steam for 35 minutes. Do not turn, leave how they are.

After 35 minutes just open the foil, carefully as it will be hot, and you have your super delicious peppers ready for your enjoyment.

    DIRECTIONS FOR YAMS

    Wash the two yams

Cut each yam horizontally so you have 2 halves each.

Place the yams on aluminum foil, each in its own foil wrapper

Sprinkle some sea salt and pepper on them with a splash of butter.
If you like you can add some raw brown sugar to give it a crystallized coating

Wrap in the foil and give the foil 3 pokes with a fork to allow air flow. Make sure the foil is completely sealed so the butter doesn't run out.

Cook on the top grill in your BBQ for 35 minutes along with the Peppers.

After 35 minutes just open the foil, carefully as it will be hot, and you have fabulous yams to go with your peppers and meat

This is a healthy way to get your veggies with your BBQ and there are NO dishes to wash. Just throw out the foil. I also love to use the yams instead of baked potatoes. It helps mix up the menu too. With the peppers, yams, tomatoes and garlic you get a super pH balance to your meat and lots of vitamins and minerals

All that is left is to ENJOY!!!!

    Remember to Always Be Fabulous!
